Rotator Cuff Injuries

Rotator cuff injuries, tears, or strains refer to the damage or irritation that affects the group of muscles and tendons surrounding the shoulder joint. These injuries often occur due to repetitive overhead motions, trauma, or degenerative changes. They can lead to pain, limited range of motion, weakness, and functional impairment. While there are various treatment options available, one promising approach is neurofunctional acupuncture.

Neurofunctional/orthopedic electro acupuncture is a specialized form of acupuncture that focuses on targeting specific points and pathways in the body to stimulate the nervous system. In the case of rotator cuff injuries, it can be used as an adjunct therapy to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, promote tissue healing, and restore proper function.

During an acupuncture session at Adapt Acupuncture, fine needles are strategically inserted into specific acupuncture points, trigger points, or motor points related to the rotator cuff muscles. This precise needling technique stimulates sensory nerves, creating a therapeutic effect on the injured area. The stimulation triggers the release of endorphins, which act as natural pain relievers, and enhances blood circulation to promote tissue repair.

Additionally, neurofunctional acupuncture can modulate the activity of the nervous system, reducing muscle tension and improving neuromuscular control. This can help restore proper movement patterns, improve muscle strength, and prevent further injuries.

Most times rotator cuff injuries are from long standing dysfunction leaving the shoulder joint vulnerable to injury. We provide a thorough assessment to understand all the factors that are playing part in the current injury and address all of the dysfunctions playing a part.
