SI Joint Dysfunction

The sacroiliac (SI) joint is a weight-bearing joint that connects the sacrum and the ilium bone of the pelvis. When the muscles that surround the SI joint become dysfunctional, it can cause SI joint dysfunction. The muscles that affect the SI joint include the gluteus maximus, gluteus medius, and the piriformis muscles. These muscles help stabilize the pelvis and the sacrum, and any imbalance or weakness in these muscles can lead to increased stress on the SI joint. This stress can cause inflammation, pain, and limited mobility in the joint. Therefore, addressing muscular dysfunction through techniques such as neurofunctional acupuncture and movement retraining can help relieve symptoms and improve SI joint function.
